Life is dynamic. Then you add in leading a business, managing your home, and every other task you have on your plate; it’s easy to lose sight of the ‘why’ behind the ‘what.’ Finding and nurturing this ‘why’ is not just about success; it’s about creating an intentional life you enjoy that’s both aligned and fulfilling.
Achieving success is both an internal and external journey. Mindset plays a key role. Here’s a few steps to help you reconnect to your vision.
Amidst the daily juggling, it can be challenging to centre ourselves and believe in our ability to create and get what we want. But here’s a secret: the power to influence the world around us begins by elevating and influencing ourselves.
You know what you want, deep down. It’s time to ignore the “I don’t know” and give voice to what you want. Whether it’s one or many things, list everything you want.
You can use different areas of life to help you brainstorm: What do you want in the areas of Health & Wellness, Personal Development, Family, Business/work, Finance, Friends, Mental growth, and please don’t forget the category of Fun. What do you want that feels great for you?
My top tip here is to be self-serving. Making it personal is the why behind the what, and if the why is not compelling enough to you, then nothing happens. So don’t look for external validation with this. This is all about what success truly means to you.
Action is the catalyst to your success, but it makes sense to do meaningful action. Choose 3 of the goals you’ve brainstormed to focus on. Even though you can do a lot, it helps to focus on 3. It’s easier for our brain and, therefore, more manageable for you.
Write why these are important to you, and if you focused on these, how would it change your life? Doing this will help you emotionally connect to your reason for taking action.
Once you know what you want to achieve, it’s time to embody them. Let them be a part of your daily life. Start with tangible goals because sometimes aiming for something as vast as “world peace” can be overwhelming. It’s okay to start with something that may seem self-centred. Your ‘why’ is your internal driver—it’s supposed to be personal.
Your ‘why’ is not just a source of motivation—it’s your personal mission statement.
Integrate your goals into your daily life so you live intentionally and authentically. We do this by establishing habits that will support what we want, e.g. creating the habit of going to the gym three days a week or drinking more water every day, journaling every morning, no phone time one hour before bed; daily walking may help with your health and fitness goal. You get the idea.
Set a habit that is simple enough you don’t have to think twice about it once it’s integrated. It’s related to the goal you want to achieve, and if you commit to it, it has lasting benefits. All goals are achieved one step at a time.
Your feelings of self-worth become a balanced equation, not just by what you do but by your ability to give and receive equally, to see support and challenge in every moment. This is the secret to stopping the mental spiral.
Your vision needs to challenge you, because you want to make sure you grow, change, and become an expanded version of yourself. As you are right now, you will not be the person that creates the results you want. It’s a version of you that has integrated new habits, committed and recommitted to your goal, learned a new skill, etc. A big part of setting and achieving goals is expanding into a version of ourselves that is worthy and inspired. Let that version lead you.
It’s natural to sometimes feel inadequate. Recognise this is part of the process – you haven’t done it before, so of course, you will feel inadequate at times. Just give it time! Shift your focus to your purpose. Your intuition knows the way. And, your expanded self knows the way.
Remember, the outer world is a reflection of your inner world. Protect your inner world. Begin to build confidence in the inner certainty – the part of you who knows she is enough for the present and trusts that the rest will follow. That old voice that tells you you’re not enough does not belong in this part of the exercise.
Let your internal wisdom shape your decisions, not the old habit of self-doubt. Honour this voice that encourages you and doesn’t hijack your intention. This habit alone will help you unlock the potential to lead and live purposefully.
Like the human body, life is holistic, not segmented, and your mindset oversees everything, shaping your decisions, actions, and perceptions—the very things you control.
Integrating your ‘why’ into your business and life gives you more than motivation—it gives you a mission. Life and leadership are intertwined; your mindset influences every facet, from strategic decisions to personal and professional achievement.
“Empires of the future are the empires of the mind” Winston Churchill
Ask yourself, who’s in control? Is it the part of you that doubts or the part that acknowledges your worth and pushes forward despite the doubt? Acknowledging your fears is okay, but don’t let them silence your ‘why.’ Instead, let your reasons and ambitions drown out the doubts; it’s the only thing that moves you forward. Have you noticed doubt never goes away? So, do it anyway.
Acknowledge that ‘enough’ is a state of growth, not a final destination. It’s time to be the lighthouse, and quit searching for the light. The light is in you; if you listen, it will guide you despite doubt and fear.
“Doubt kills more dreams than fear ever will.” Anon.
